Flying into Champaign Illinois

Bus from Chicago

LEX Shuttle has pick-up points in Chicago (around 13 options) as well as Bloomington, Indianapolis and comes directly to the UIUC campus. A round-trip fare from Urbana-Champaign to Chicago is between $70 and $100 depending on your pickup point. Mega Bus – Trips from Union Station in Chicago to IL Terminal in Champaign are available at a much lower cost than other providers but does not have a very flexible schedule. One way fares may vary between $ 1 – $ 16. (It costs $1 when booked for return and ordered way in advance.)

Illini Shuttle serves Chicago and universities like Eastern Illinois, Illinois State, Purdue University, Western Illinois. They run shuttles made by a Mercedes-Benz! Average price for a two-way trip between Chicago and Urbana-Champaign is between $ 80-100. Reservations are required.

Train from Chicago

Urbana-Champaign is on Amtrak system. Tickets cost around $13 (one-way) if booked in advance. It takes around 2 hours and 50 minutes (in the rare event that there are no freight trains slowing you down) from Chicago to reach the IL Terminal in Champaign. The station code for Champaign-Urbana is CHM. Here are the daily arrival/departure times:
Northbound: 6:10 am (train 58), 10:14 am, 6:49 pm
Southbound: 11:25 am, 6:15 pm, 10:34 pm (train 59)

Moving within Urbana-Champaign

Bus
Using Urbana-Champaign’s award-winning bus system can be a cheap way to move around locally. The adult fare for the city routes is $1.00. On-campus routes are free for everyone, including visitors – no fare or ID required. Information about the bus service can be found at the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (CUMTD) web site. Hard copies of the bus schedule are available on any of the CUMTD buses.
